The Hôtel National des Invalides was originally built as a hospital for wounded soldiers in 1670 under the orders of King Louis XIV. It has since expanded into a large complex at the heart of Paris, dedicated to the city’s military history. It is home to several museums and, perhaps most notably, the tomb of Emperor Napoleon I. This footage from c. 1900 shows the historic center and visitors from a different age, long before the two World Wars.
