While spending time in Glasgow, I had walked past The Sisters a few times and knew I had to make reservations. The menu looked amazing and the name made me think of my sister : ) It is a small restaurant with an intimate and beautiful dining space. I chose a window seat so I could look out to the quiet street below. I hadn’t expected the city to be so quiet in the early evenings.. but I found that I really loved wandering around and enjoying the slower pace that comes with empty streets..
One of the foods on my list to eat while in Scotland was black pudding. Black pudding is made by mixing animal blood, oatmeal and fat. It is so different from anything that I have eaten, I had to try it. It has a very strong, overwhelming flavor. It’s not bad but it’s also not that yummy : )
The black pudding was encased in a perfectly cooked hash. The crispy texture of the hash created a nice balance with the soft pudding. But, the most prominent flavor was the black pudding. It overpowered the other elements of the dish easily. Every bite after black pudding tastes like black pudding. Not bad, just.. unique.
The meal started with beautiful, fresh, house made bread …
Cast iron skillet shrimp…
And a perfectly cooked steak and mushroom sauce entree..
And for dessert.. An apple tarte tatin.
I am really happy that I got to experience black pudding in Glasgow and The Sisters was the perfect place for an adventurous evening. I definitely recommend black pudding, even if it’s just to say that you’ve eaten it : )
