When I landed in Glasgow, my first stop was the most traditional restaurant I could find. Scotland has some very interesting food that was very foreign to me and I couldn’t wait to get started..even if it was hard to order because I couldn’t pronounce some of it : ) I learned a lot over the course of my evening. Yay for culinary adventures and new things! First to arrive was haggis, neeps and tatties. The main ingredients in haggis are sheep’s heart, liver, lungs and stomach, onions, spices, oatmeal and fat. Neeps are, to keep it simple, a root vegetable and tatties are potatoes. This dish was so fun because of the unique flavor of the haggis.. very heavy and rich. You could almost taste the iron from all the organs.

When I saw the Cullen Skink I had to order it .. Because I had no idea what it was : ) Turns out it is a creamy soup with smoked haddock and it was delicious.

The meat pie trio was beef, lamb, and vegetable…Beautiful, traditional and tasty.

For dessert.. Cranachan. Another dish that I had never heard of..This was beyond amazing. Whipped cream, honey, whiskey, raspberries, and golden oats.. silky and smooth and heavenly. I will order this any time I see it on a menu.

And some caramel profiteroles because.. why not?

My evening at The Drum and Monkey was amazing, educational and absolutely delicious. Finding food that is new to me is the point of my travels, so places like The Drum and Monkey are always a special treat. So many new experiences in one spot. The food in Glasgow was worth the trip, for sure : )
