Brazil’s capital, Brasilia, was designed and built with the future in mind. Beginning in the 1950s, a modernizing push under President Juscelino Kubitschek sought to move the capital from Rio de Janeiro to a more centralized location. The site of Brasilia was chosen as the birthplace of an all-new city, built with cutting-edge architectural styles. Architects Lúcio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer, Joaquim Cardozo, and landscape artist Roberto Burle Marx all made significant contributions to the city.
Brasilia remains the capital of Brazil today, and it’s still an impressive monument to design and urban planning. For this reason, UNESCO has recognized it as a World Heritage Site. This video showcases the impressive buildings, landscapes, and design that have made Brasilia so famous.
