This lecture explores the context of wrestling in medieval Europe to help build a deeper understanding of wrestling for HEMA. We’ll construct a looking glass into the past by consulting contemporary art and literature, living folk wrestling styles, and words from the medieval masters. By the end of the lecture, you will be able to apply a deeper understanding of medieval wrestling to more accurately interpret unarmed material in the HEMA sources.
