Ted Dibble Seminar: The Symbol is not the Thing
1974 Synanon Newcomer Program - Ted wore many hats during his career. One that most fit his desire to both perform on stage and to educate, in that order, was his role as seminar master. In this video, Ted explores several key ideas that Synanon’s founder put forth in a set of lectures known as the Bypass Series. Ted performs a mischievous dance, explaining sophisticated abstract concepts as simple recipes for solving daily conflicts. He illustrates, analogizes and creates outrageous metaphors to make his points. Periodically with great timing and aplomb, he adopts the banter of Jersey street life, a language his audience of recovering addicts understand.
Forty-eight years later, we get to see some of Ted’s best work. Although the recording is a bit grainy, stick with it. I guarantee it is worth the time invested:
