I love all things related to Hollywood and cinema!! When visiting Burbank, often referred to as the “Media Capital of the World” I knew that I wanted to eat somewhere famous. I was familiar with The Steakhouse and its clientele so I made reservations immediately. The first thing I noticed when entering Morton’s was the insane amount of celebrity photos that adorned the intimate, dimly lit dining room. Located near many of the studios, Morton’s has had its fair share of high profile diners over the years. I scanned the walls in awe. Robert Downey Jr. , Dave Grohl and many others, smiled down at me from their photos while I waited for my table..I was in heaven!
I was seated at a beautiful table, set with white linens, cut crystal drinking glasses and comfy, dark leather chairs. I enjoyed the complimentary fresh bread while looking over the menu. The loaf was warm, light, airy and huge!
I started with the beefsteak tomato salad. The anchovies added a delicious saltiness to the tomatoes and diced onions. The red wine drizzle was the perfect pairing for the bold flavors of the salad.
My appetizer choice was the bacon wrapped scallops with apricot chutney on the side. Perfectly cooked with just the right balance of sweet and salty.
Time for the main course! At Morton’s the menu is divided in to many categories. First you choose your meat then you choose your side dishes. From the “Butcher’s Cut Features” the lamb chops and mint jelly. Beautiful minimalist plating and a perfect cook.
The next obvious choice was from the “Prime Steaks and Chops” section. The Morton’s Classic Filet Oscar. A tender medium rare filet topped with an emulsified butter sauce, jumbo lump crab and asparagus. It was amazing and melted in my mouth as any good filet should. I have had this dish many times in many restaurants and Morton’s was unforgettable. A true classic!
Next, from the “Sides” menu… I wanted to start with a traditional pairing so I ordered the sour cream mashed potatoes. They were fluffy, tangy and creamy.
Brussel sprouts are a favorite vegetable dish of mine so I ordered those as well. Sauteed to create crispy edges and paired with bacon, they were everything I had hoped they would be.
I don’t often see creamed spinach on a menu so I figured I might as well order that too and it was surprisingly flavorful!
Dessert will always be my favorite and I always need at least two!! I decided to start with the hazelnut chocolate mousse and it did not disappoint. It was soft and light and velvety smooth. The hazelnut added an elegant depth to the intense chocolate flavor.
A classic dessert, the crème brûlée. I like to have one non chocolate option because in my mind if its not chocolate, it doesn’t count as dessert lol!! It can be found on many dessert menus and I always like to give it a taste. The creamy texture covered in brittle, caramelized sugar is always fun!
A fine dining experience for me can often take a few hours as I like to have multiple courses with a few selections each. I like to get a good sense of the menu as a whole and that requires lots of dishes and thoughtful tasting. Morton’s was no exception! The menu had my favorite traditional dishes but also a few unique choices that made for a very memorable evening. I enjoyed my time there very much. It was comfortable and relaxing and the food was amazing. I can’t wait to go back!
