Sandholt was my favorite bakery and breakfast spot in downtown Reykjavik. With the sun rising at about noon during my Christmas visit, I walked there in the dark each morning. The sky would begin to lighten as I enjoyed their delicious food..
When I wanted something light and refreshing I would order the Skyr, fruit and compote with granola wafers. The Skyr was tart and had hints of lemon. It reminded me of a posset more than a yogurt. The granola wafers were crisp and great for dipping..
The avocado on sourdough bread with tomatoes and a fried egg was delicious, savory and filling. Everything tasted so fresh and clean..
Freshly made pesto bread. Soft and easy to pull apart..
They served the best Swiss mochas I have ever had. So smooth and mild and creamy..
A berry danish to accompany my morning coffee. I picked this one because of the lattice like design that I was unfamiliar with. It was crisp and tart and a little gooey..
When you enter Sandholt you can see all of the fresh breads, pastries and cakes. You can get something for take away or you can be seated for service..
Display cases filled with breakfast items..
Display cases filled with treats..
And more treats..
And some beautiful cakes..
I loved the staff and food at Sandholt and can’t wait to go back. It will always be my breakfast spot in Reykjavik.
