This hourglass-shaped drum, with two heads connected by ropes and belts to change the pitch, accompanies all types of Korean music. One head, of horsehide, is struck with a bamboo stick; the other, thicker head of cow hide is usually struck by hand, except in shamanist music. Dragon-head hooks secure the heads to the lacing.
